Pricing and Trims
There are five trim levels available from Kia for the Niro: EX, FE, LX and EX. Touring Launch Edition is also available. Each trim level is very well-equipped, with more features for higher trim levels.
The FE trim includes a rear spoiler and power side mirrors. It also has solar control glass, sound-absorbing windshield, rear privacy, rear window defroster, rear window defroster, rear window tint, 16-inch alloy wheels, projector beam headslights, and LED positioning light. This trim features an interior touchscreen with 7-inch color, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and 6 speakers. It also has a rear spoiler, solar control glass, projector beam headlights, rear privacy glass, rear window defroster, and two 12-volt power outlets.
Upgrade to the Niro LX for roof rails and LED taillights. A smart key with push button ignition, a folding rear armrest with integrated cupholders, and a rear luggage board with underfloor storage tray are all included.
The Niro is the next level up. It has everything above plus LED turn signals lights in the side mirror housings. Power-folding and heated sides mirrors. Door handle pocket lights. A Smart Welcome system that will get everything ready once your smart keys are detected.
The Touring Launch Edition features Sport Black accents on the exterior. This sets it apart from other Niros. The Touring Launch Edition is distinguished by the 18-inch alloy wheels in Hyper Gray. The Touring is at the top of the line, but it doesn’t have the same Sport Black exterior accents. The Touring adds a power sunroof and optional HID headlights to the mix. Additional equipment includes a front- and rear parking assistance system, dual LED maps lights, leather upholstery and stainless steel door sill plate. There is also a driver’s chair integrated memory system, front seat ventilation and a heated steering column.
A Niro comes with an invoice from the factory of approximately $24,000 for an FE-model and an MSRP around $25,000. The MSRP is increased by $1,000 by purchasing the LX trim level, while the EX adds $2,500. The MSRP for the Touring Launch Edition is approximately $2,500 higher than that of the EX. While the Touring adds an additional $1,600, it increases it by about $2,500.
Performance and Engine
The Kia Niro has a hybrid powertrain. It consists of a four-cylinder, 1.6-liter gasoline engine with direct injection and a lightweight electric motor that is connected to a 1.56-volt lithium-ion battery. It’s not possible to plug in charging because it is a parallel hybrid setup. The combined system output is rated at 13 horsepower and 195 lb.ft.
Standard equipment includes front-wheel drive and a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission (DCT). Regenerative brake helps to recharge the lithium-ion battery while you drive.
The interior is black with silver accents and grey. It is simple and modern, with two groups on the dash and several controls on your steering wheel. Two analog gauges are included in the gauge cluster, as well as a digital screen that drivers can set up however they like.
Overall, the cabin’s fit and finish is excellent for its class, as with other Kias. The majority of components feel heavy and have a soft or textured feel. Materials improve slightly as you get to higher trims. The front and rear seats are comfortable and well-padded. This makes it a very useful option.
